Description
Blaze King Princess 29 Wood Insert
The Blaze King Princess 29 Wood Insert is a high-efficiency catalytic fireplace insert designed to deliver long, controlled burns while fitting into relatively compact fireplace openings. Its projecting design extends approximately 11 inches onto the hearth, allowing more of the firebox surface to radiate heat into the room.
With a large firebox, built-in blower, and thermostat-controlled combustion, the Princess 29 is designed for homeowners who want efficient wood heat without installing a freestanding stove.
Check Fireplace Compatibility First
Although the Princess 29 is designed to fit smaller fireplace openings, size alone does not determine whether your fireplace is suitable. The current installation information specifies a minimum opening of 25-3/4 inches wide × 23-1/2 inches high × 12-1/2 inches deep.
The current manual also prohibits installation in a factory-built fireplace. Your installer should identify the existing fireplace construction and confirm that it is approved for the insert before ordering.
A continuous 6-inch chimney liner is required from the insert to the top of the chimney. Proper liner design and draft are important for reliable low-output operation and catalytic performance.
Long Burns With Controlled Heat
The Princess 29 has a 2.57 cu. ft. firebox and is rated for up to 27–29 hours on low, depending on the specification source. Its current documented output range is approximately 9,023 to 30,194 BTU/hour.
The maximum burn time represents low-output operation, not continuous heating at maximum power. The practical question is how long the insert can maintain the heat output your home actually requires.
The manufacturer lists heating coverage of up to approximately 2,300 sq. ft., but actual performance depends on insulation, climate, floor plan, chimney performance and building heat loss.
Projecting Design for Radiant Heat
Unlike a completely flush fireplace insert, the Princess 29 projects approximately 11 inches onto the hearth. This exposes more of the firebox to the room and allows radiant heat to reach the living space.
The projecting design also affects hearth requirements. The supplied 2025 installation information calls for noncombustible protection extending 16 inches in front of the door opening in the U.S. and 18 inches in Canada, plus 8 inches to either side.
Existing hearth dimensions should therefore be checked against the actual installed door position rather than measured only from the original fireplace face.
Catalytic Technology and Built-In Blower
The Princess 29 uses a catalytic combustion system to support cleaner, controlled burning at different heat settings. Its blower helps circulate warm air from the appliance into the room.
The combustion thermostat and blower perform different jobs. The supplied manual information recommends allowing the appliance to reach normal operating temperature before using the fan and generally matching fan speed to the thermostat setting.
The blower should therefore not be treated as the same thing as the stove’s combustion control.

Firewood and Chimney Requirements
The current manual lists a 16-inch tested fuel length, while some dealer listings show 20 inches as the maximum. For everyday loading, the tested fuel length and recommended size are more useful than simply assuming that the largest listed log will be convenient.
Chimney performance is equally important. Poor draft can contribute to smoke spillage, chimney or cap plugging, low heat output, and difficulty keeping the catalyst active at lower settings.
Is the Princess 29 Right for You?
The Blaze King Princess 29 Wood Insert is a strong option if you want long, low-output burns, catalytic heating, and a large firebox in a fireplace insert. Its projecting design also provides useful radiant heat into the room.
The most important checks before purchase are fireplace compatibility, continuous 6-inch liner installation, hearth clearances and your home’s actual heat demand. These factors matter more than simply seeing “29-hour burn” or “up to 2,300 sq. ft.” in a product listing.
